All My Sons Arthur Miller's All My Sons is a perfect example of a literary work that builds up to, and then reaches, an ending that simultaneously satisfies the reader's expectations and brings all the play's themes to a dramatic conclusion. As the past slowly bubbles up into the present, the reader begins to need certain confrontations - and certain judgments - to occur. The finale that Miller deftly crafted for this play is filled with a dramatic irony that leaves the reader thinking. In the end the wrong has been avenged, and the inner and outer circles -family and society - have come crashing together. Even though Miller is slow to establish his main theme in the exposition, once set, the main themes develop into powerful messages that hold meaning for all: if one cannot look beyond their personal circle, they are condemned to an ignorant existence ended by a tragic moment of realization. Joe Keller goes through this slow, and painful, process of realization. It has been hard work for Keller to maintain his blind ignorance toward his crime, and his guilt; however, despite his efforts, his tainted past is continually creeping into his sacred inner circle, the only world that Keller allows himself to recognize. When Keller sees that his inner circle is only a tiny speck in the greater outer circle - and that those people, whom he thought were unrelated to him, were actually all his sons - he takes his own life, an acceptable ending for the reader. As Miller's play ends, the personal beliefs of each character come into question. Chris is forced to look at his father, and his father's guilt, in the harsh light of reality for the first time. ?Father' had always meant the personification of goodness and infallibility to Chris. When reality's light illuminates the cracks in Keller's good-guy facade, Chris can only run away. Ironically, the only person who truly realizes the full consequences of Keller's crime is Keller himself; he dies to regain his conscience. Another belief that shatters under reality's torrents is Mrs. Keller's belief that her son survived the war. She is forced to confront this pipe dream in the end, when Ann brings a letter from Larry, documenting his planned suicide. As in O'Neil's The Iceman Cometh, this confrontation of the pipe dream does not bring peace - but death. This play is highly structured and extremely well-written. As soon as Miller sets his main theme into place, the entire play moves in the direction of that theme's tragic conclusion. The battle described in Miller's drama, the unending war between social expediency and moral righteousness, comes to the inevitable climax that the reader needs and expects. No loose ends are left behind to add ambiguity to the work, and the reader is left satisfied that Miller has come to a logical and fulfilling denouement.

While Britain was witnessing a period of unprecedented prosperity and power during the beginning of the twentieth century and its connection to the United States goes two centuries further back, it was the alliance with France which was strategically important in the context of the Great War. This assessment goes against the grain of popular history, but nevertheless true. For example, the shared ideological basis of the two countries goes back to the Declaration of Independence on July the four th, 1776. If the competitive index of a country at its own stage is high it means that the country is away from its steady state and hence it will have short term growth prospects. Similarly if the competitive index of a country is higher at its next stage it means it is ready for the next level and hence it has long term growth prospects. This is off course subject to the condition that the current growth parameters at its current stage are at a satisfactory level. Analysis of Stage 1 economies Since these are stage 1 economy the assumption here is more or less they have a similar production function though convergence law may not apply as these countries are having different economic, cultural, geographical, historical backgrounds. As Stage 1 economies, the growth rate is heavily dependent upon capital accumulation which in turn is dependent on high investment (savings rate). It will also depend upon primary education, quality of infrastructure, labour, and health and primary institutions more than secondary education or trade barriers or technological innovation. It will also depend if the country has reached its steady state at that production function level and at what level of capital accumulation. Only if it shows sustained growth i.e. it is far away from its steady state and its primary factors( competitive index at stage 1) is high, it can be evaluated to check if can increase its production function to the next higher level for which more importance will then be gi ven onto secondary education, trade barriers and technological advances( Competitive index 2). Also GDP growth of previous years gives a trend. Considering the above factors we can conclude that Vietnam will grow the fastest within the next 10-15 years (short term). As it shows favourable stats it can progress to the next higher stage in the next 20 years. Myanmar on the other hand seems to have achieved steady state at a very less capital. Since the rate of investment is less and its primary factors such as education and infrastructure is less, its growth prospects are less. With a high trade barrier and less secondary education and lesser technological advances it cannot graduate itself to a stage 2 economy in the next 20 years. Nicaragua has similar statistics to that of Myanmar. However its primary education, quality of infrastructure is higher which suggests a higher growth prospect. Since its trade barriers are less and technological parameters are high, it has more chances of long term growth than Myanmar. Overall, the ranking on the basis of long term growth is as follows: Vietnam Nicaragua Myanmar Analysis of Stage 2 economies Since these are stage 2 economies, these will be more dependent on the next higher production function curve which is higher education, trade barriers, and technological advances. Off course investment in infrastructure, institutions, primary education and capital accumulation will still remain important though not as high as they were for stage 1 economies. Botswana seems to be leading the pack but because it is highly dependent upon minerals mainly diamond mining which have finite years and are subject to market speculations[10], it will be ranked lower to that of Thailand due to the fact that it is lesser in secondary education and technology transfer. Thailand in fact can graduate to the next higher level in the next 20 years. Tunisia on the other hand due to its high trade barrier will have consistent slow growth rate at its current productivity levels and will not progress to the next higher level. Overall, the ranking on the basis of long term growth is as follows: Thailand Botswana Tunisia Analysis of Stage 3 economies Since these are already stage 3 economies, the determinant factor will be their distance from steady state. And this will be dependant on high total factor productivity factors such as technological innovation, efficiency, human capital, trade barriers more than capital accumulation or primary education or quality of infrastructure unless there is a big issue with those parameters. The competitive index of stage 3 sums up the critical factors and based on that we can say Mauritius is having this highest growth prospect followed by Croatia and Greece. Greece is having a recession which can suggest in a way that it has reached its steady state. Since itââ¬â¢s technological and efficiency factors are not very high, it will struggle to grow in both short as well as long term. Overall, the ranking on the basis of long term growth is as follows: Mauritius Croatia Greece Conclusion: Based on the above analysis, we can conclude that Vietnam is the most growing country whereas Greece is the least. Competition of Apple versus Microsoft :: Technology
Microsoft and Apple are the two leading corporations in the rapidly growing electronic business. Apple Inc. was incorporated January 3, 1977, ('Apple Investor Relations Investor FAQ') one year after Microsoft was funded. In August 1981, Microsoft launched its first version of Windows version 1.0 sparking the competition between Microsoft and Apple. ('Introduction to Microsoft Windows') Microsoft is better than Apple because, people are more familiar with Microsoft Windows rather than Mac OS (Operating System) X. It is easier and cheaper to upgrade Microsoft's software and hardware rather than the Mac PC, and Microsoft's corporation also has much more to offer to the public than Apple Inc. It is true people are more familiar with Microsoft Windows rather than Apple's Mac OS X. After the release of Microsoft's Windows 3.0 in the 1990's, the Apple corporation fell, and more and more people started purchasing Microsoft's Windows, and forgetting that Apple even had an OS. While Apple only tried to sell their product to the upper class citizen and top businesses, Microsoft looked for ways to push their software out in any and every possible direction. Today Microsoft Windows is everywhere, in almost every office, and in millions of homes around the world. Also, schools across the United States are running Microsoft Windows on their computer hardware. Microsoft Windows? interface and many of their features greatly differ from that of Apple?s Mac OS X. Since both schoo l systems and most major businesses run Microsoft Windows, it benefits to run Microsoft Windows in your own home instead of Apple?s Mac Os X because it would be more difficult to operate something that one is not familiar with. Microsoft products have become some of the most affordable and efficient products in the computer industry. Microsoft?s official website offers free and easy installation of new upgrades and updates for your Microsoft software. Also Microsoft Windows offers a free built in firewall, and security against viruses and spyware. All parts for a Microsoft computer are upgradable and interchangeable as long as the required version of Windows is on the PC. Before Apple started using Microsoft software for the Mac PC (also known as the iMac), the only upgradable hardware for an iMac was the RAM (random access memory), therefore, the only option would be to buy an entirely new PC if something went wrong.

Literary Analysis and Criticism of ââ¬ÅThe Tell-Tale Heartââ¬Â Essay
Human beings have all experienced guilt, the consequence of committing a wrong, and the manipulation it has on decisions. In the short story ââ¬Å"The Tell-Tale Heart,â⬠author Edgar Allan Poe demonstrates the theme that guilt is strong and has the power to overcome conscience; he uses characterization, the conflict, and symbolism to communicate this message. The characterization of the narrator most clearly shows this theme. In addition to Poeââ¬â¢s use of characterization, his decision to show the struggle the narrator endures with himself reveals the causes of the narrator to succumb to his guilt. The use of symbolism throughout the novel draws attention to the narratorââ¬â¢s guilt and his insanity. ââ¬Å"The Tell-Tale Heartâ⬠is told by a first-person narrator who tells of a story in hope of convincing the reader of his sanity though throughout the story, he shows the strong control his guilt has over him and his mind, and ultimately proves his insanity. The narrator describes his plot to kill an old man whom the narrator didnââ¬â¢t hate, but who he desired to kill due to the old manââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Evil Eyeâ⬠(Poe 1). The old manââ¬â¢s eye was pale blue and covered with a film. It gave the narrator chills in his blood. The narrator began his plot to commit the murder. He crept into the old manââ¬â¢s room every night at midnight for seven nights, but finding the eye closed as the old man slept, the narrator couldnââ¬â¢t bring himself to commit the deed. The narrator described himself as being ââ¬Å"never kinder to the old man than during the whole week beforeâ⬠he killed him (Poe 1). On the eighth night, the old man awoke to the sound of the narrato r chuckling as he was in the process of entering the room. When the narrator opened a gap in the lantern, the ray of light revealed the vulture eye. The narrator began to hear a sound which he believed to be the old manââ¬â¢s heart beating, and as the beating grew louder, the narratorââ¬â¢s anxiety grew which led the narrator to commit the murder by pulling the mattress over the old man. The narrator dismembered the corpse and buried them under planks of the flooring of the old manââ¬â¢s bedroom. The police arrived at the house, a neighbor having heard the old manââ¬â¢s scream during the murder, and found nothing out of place in the house. While chatting with the police, the narrator began again hearing the beating of what he believed to be the old manââ¬â¢s heart. The beating grew louder and louder, and no longer to able bear the sound, the narrator confessed to the police of committing the deed. The characterization of the narrator made the narratorââ¬â¢s insanity and sense of guilt vastly palpable. The narrator of the st ory is a first-person unreliable narrator as he is surmounted with insanity, and the reader is unable to know how much of the story the narrator tells is true. The characterization of the narrator helps prove his madness as well as his guilt, leading to his confession. He ââ¬Å"strongly believes in the need for making methodical and calculated decisions but is eventually overcome by inexplicable psychological forces that stem from his irrational, unstable natureâ⬠(Historical Context 1). The narrator is spiraling into folly as he recounts the story of committing the murder of an old man. He begins the story saying that he is ââ¬Å"VERY, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?â⬠(Poe 1). The narrator admits to being nervous while committing the murder and now in the present. He doesnââ¬â¢t believe himself to be a madman as he tries to convince the reader of this by describing his reasons for murdering the old man and his precise and cautious steps he took throughout the murder. He explains being extremely kind to the old man as to trick him into never suspecting the murder. His precise plans included his slow and careful steps to enter the old manââ¬â¢s bedroom each night for eight nights before committing the murder without disturbing the old man in his sleep and the steps he took to conceal the corpse by accurately dismembering the body and hiding the parts under the floor board so as ââ¬Å"that no human eyeââ¬ânot even hisââ¬âcould have detected any thing wrongâ⬠(Poe 2). The narratorââ¬â¢s reasons for killing the old man provide as much trivial proof of his sanity as his precautions do. The narrator ââ¬Å"has no rational reason for wanting to kill the old manâ⬠(Chua 1). He declares to have desired to kill the old man as to rid himself of the old manââ¬â¢s vulture eye. The description of the old manââ¬â¢s eye as that of a vulture is the narratorââ¬â¢s attempt to defend his actions by comparing himself to a vulnerable being defenseless to an unsightly scavenger. The narrator claims, ââ¬Å"Object there was none. Passion there was none. I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye!â⬠(Poe 1). The narrator declares love for the old man whom he brutally murdered and dismembered, chuckling at his cleverness in doing so. In an effort to divide the person of the old man from the old manââ¬â¢s allegedly evil eye, which prompts the narratorââ¬â¢s hatred, the narrator discloses his insanity. This delusional partition allows the narrator to be oblivious to the irony of claiming to have loved his victim. The first-person narration of the story helps reveal the narratorââ¬â¢s mental illness to the reader. ââ¬Å"The particular standpoint from which the ââ¬ËTell-Tale Heartââ¬â¢ is told provides the reader with insight into the major characterââ¬â¢s motivation in carrying out the murder and in telling us about itâ⬠(Moore 1). The narrator speaks of ââ¬Å"mortal terrorâ⬠that the narrator says many nights at midnight ââ¬Å"has welled up from my own bosom, deepening, with its dreadful echo, the terrors that distracted meâ⬠(Poe 1). ââ¬Å"The reason for the crime lies exclusively in the narratorââ¬â¢s disturbed mindâ⬠(Moore 1). The narratorââ¬â¢s explanation of the murder reveals that he heard the beating of a heart, what he believed to be the old manââ¬â¢s heart. This beating heart twice caused him to act irrationally during the story as his actions were in hope of stopping the sound of the beating heart: it caused the narrator to finally commit the murder and it caused him to confess to the police. This shows his guilt he feels for killing the innocent old man as he confesses to the murder though he had clearly gotten away with it, as did his nervousness that he conveys that he is overcome with throughout the story. The conflict of the story helps to reveal the strong prevalence of guilt experienced by the narrator. The main conflict of the story is an inner conflict, character vs. himself, as the narrator struggles with his own disturbed mind. The narrator, after deciding to murder the old man due to his vulture eye, experiences the forceful sound of a heart beat. His struggles with himself cause him to kill the old man whom he loved. The narrator in the beginning of the story confesses to the reader that he suffers from a ââ¬Å"diseaseâ⬠that apparently ââ¬Å"sharpenedâ⬠his senses, specifically his sense of hearing acute (Poe 1), in an attempt to rationally explain why he believed he heard the old manââ¬â¢s heart beating. The narrator attempts to fight his conscience while experiencing this sound, specifically when he tries not to confess the murder to the police and reveal the secret location of the corpse. The murder of the innocent old man causes the narrator to feel guilt such that he ends up confessing the deed in the end. A minor conflict is the conflict of the narrator vs. the eye which causes him to commit the deed in the first place. The vulture-like eye gives the narratorââ¬â¢s blood chills and vexed him so that he had to be rid of it. The narrator acts as a helpless creature to the powers of the eye. The narrator, in hatred of the eye, thus conceived the plan to murder the old man so he would never again be disturbed by the eye. Symbolism is ever so dominant in ââ¬Å"The Tell-Tale Heart.â⬠The most apparent symbol in the short story is the sound of the beating heart. The narrator believes the sound is the old manââ¬â¢s beating heart brought on by his nervousness on the eighth night and heard by the narrator due to his ââ¬Å"disease.â⬠The sound of the beating heart represents the guilt and remorse the narrator feels for committing the deed as it causes him to confess the deed to the police. The narratorââ¬â¢s growing agitation to the intensifying sound causes him to confess as he can no longer bear the sound, revealing his guilt. The narrator had clearly gotten away without suspicion of the police with the deed, but in the end, he was his own worst enemy as he admitted himself as the murderer. Another obvious symbol is the vulture eye of the old man. The narrator possesses the idea that an old man is staring at him with the Evil Eye and placing a curse on him as he gets chills in his blood. The narrator also obsesses over the eye as he desires to separate it from the old man as to spare the man from his aggressive response to the eye. The narrator reveals his incapability to distinguish that the ââ¬Å"eyeâ⬠is the ââ¬Å"I,â⬠or identity, of the old man (Chua 1). The eyes represent the spirit of human identity, which canââ¬â¢t be alienated from the body. The eye canââ¬â¢t be destroyed without bringing about the old manââ¬â¢s death. The watch that the narrator speaks of symbolizes time and the narratorââ¬â¢s obsession with time. Time is a very important factor in the story as it controls the narratorââ¬â¢s every move. The narrator routinely entered the old manââ¬â¢s room at midnight and described his actions as moving slower than the minute hand of the watch (Poe 1). The lantern that the narrator uses in his nightly routine in the old manââ¬â¢s bedroom represents the narratorââ¬â¢s hatred for the eye. The narrator sees the old man sleeping and with the eye closed, heââ¬â¢s unable to commit the murder. On the eighth night, the ray of light from the lantern reveals the Evil Eye, which is the narratorââ¬â¢s enemy, and sets off the narratorââ¬â¢s delusional hatred for the vulture eye, making him able to kill the old man. The theme of the story is that guilt is a powerful emotion that can cause one to succumb to their guilt, in this case, the narrator. All the carefully planned elements of the story work to create an overall unity, from the narratorââ¬â¢s denial of his insanity to his confession, the delusional conflict of the narrator, and the abundance of symbolism throughout the story. The heart symbolizes the narratorââ¬â¢s guilt and causes him to confess to the police. Even when no one knows one committed a bad deed, that person themselves knows of the deed, so they will have to live with the guilt and the consequences of their actions, or succumb to their guilt and confess. Where the Queer Charactersat Im a character-driven reader: its the characters that suck me into the plot and make me want to keep turning the pages. à I especially love finding characters who resemble me in some way, from hair texture to musical inclinations. But what happens when you almost never see a key component of your identity mirrored in the characters you love? I identify as bisexual, and I want to know where the queer characters are in mainstream literature. To be clear, Im not talking about the characters you find in the LGBTQ+ section of the bookstore. I hate browsing in that section and feeling that I have to seek out these characters, and that when I do their narratives are only focused on their sexual orientation or gender identity. à I just want queer characters to exist organically in the books read by the mainstream public. In honor of Pride Month coming to a close I have composed a list my favorite books with LGBTQ+ characters, spanning several genres and each presenting a unique view of what it means to be LGBTQ+. Happy reading! *Warning:à all of these pieces of literature contain adult themes and content* 1.à The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson A dark and disturbing mystery, Theà Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a fantastic read that keeps the reader on the edge of his or her seat. One of the main characters isà Lisbeth Salander, an abrasive and unapologetic bisexual. What I like about her role in the novel is that her sexual orientationà isnt treated as a big deal (although it does play a role in subsequent novels). Salander simply does who she wants, when she wants, without Larsson making it a main plot point. 2. The Best Little Boy in the World by Andrew Tobias The Best Little Boy in the World is an oldie but goodie, a classic coming-out story. I really enjoy the honesty of this memoir. Tobias, originally writing under the pen nameà John Reid, details discovering his sexuality without resorting to sensationalism. He quietly proves his point: gay people are just like everyone else. 3. Iron Council byà China Mià ©ville Iron Councilà is a peculiar hybrid of western, steampunk, and fantasy genres. Much like the protagonist inà The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the main character in Mià ©villes novel isà unobtrusively bisexual. This novel is a prime example of an LGBTQ+ character merely existing in literature; there is no fuss or hullabaloo because the character defies heteronormativity. 4.à Rubyfruit Jungle byà Rita Mae Brown Rubyfruit Jungle is another coming of age/out story. However, unlike The Best Little Boy in the World, it is told from the point of view of a lesbian. Although problematic in some of its portrayal of the lesbian community and its sub-sects, the novel is an important read as it paved the way for other lesbian coming-out stories. This list goes out to all the questioning readers who want to find themselves in literature.

But when I sit in the restaurant and see the words oxtail stew with creamed spinach and potatoes, I drool immediately. I remember the moment when a waiter of Waitron placed the crispy warm bread rolls beside me on a white plate. In front of me, there were yellow balls of butter. Next, she placed in front of me a bowl of creamed spinach, dark green finely cut with the white cream and steam coming from it advertising it was freshly cooked. I inhaled the warm aroma unique to spinach. Beside it, there was a bowl with smooth white mashed potato. Rich creamy smooth and firm from the butter and milk that had been beaten into it to add to its flavor and smooth texture. Then the bowl full of oxtail stew came. Its rich dark brown color was set off by the white bowl it was in. The gravy was thick and rich. I could smell the aroma of beef, garlic, and herbs and spices drifting up from it into my nose. Unfortunately, any food has a tendency to get cold. My mouth watered in anticipation to eat it. Now, I took the silver spoon and dipped it into the bowl of potato. It smoothly penetrated the firm fluffy white mound. I lifted the spoon and turned it over on my plate depositing a mound of potato. I repeated this 3 times. Then using another spoon, I scooped up spinach dripping white sauce and put it on the plate beside the potato. The dark green spinach was hot, the white sauce melted and it contrasted with the creamy potato. After a second helping of spinach, I took another larger spoon. I dipped it into the rich brown stew and stirred it. Then I scooped up a chunky slice of oxtail. Several other pieces followed that one onto my plate, the rich brown meat, contrasting with the dark green spinach and creamy white potato. The succulent meat gleaming with a coating of rich gravy and the aroma of gravy, garlic spinach and potato blending in the steam rising from my plate. I scooped up gravy from the bowl and trickled it over the white potato catching the scent of red wine. I broke th e roll and spread butter on it and I was ready to eat. Now the decision where to start, so I bit into the fresh crisp roll and tasted its warm soft texture and the melting butter. By then I had decided to sample the potato with gravy and the spinach. The potato was smooth, with a taste of butter overpowered with the tangy gravy, its garlic and hint of good red wine in it. The spinach was a good foil. Smooth with its vegetable texture and plain white sauce it softened the taste of the gravy. Then I used my fork and removed the succulent meat from the bone. Its soft texture, fatty feeling in the mouth, the spice wine and garlic in the gravy made it perfect. Finally, I sat contented at my table eating as much as I could, and more than I should of my favorite food. Is this essay written in vivid details so that you would like to taste it as well? The soccer ballââ¬â¢s circumference is 27-28 inches while the basketballââ¬â¢s circumference in the NBA is 29.5 inches. The ball used in soccer is a thickly-padded and smooth with black and white pen tagonal sections. However, basketballs are orange with thin symmetrical lines. The primary rule in soccer is that players are not allowed to use their hands. Only the goalkeepers are allowed to use their hands. In addition, soccer players can use their heads and their trunks of their bodies. They must try to kick the ball into the opposing teamââ¬â¢s goal post by moving the ball without touching it with their hands. If a player touches the ball with his hands, then the other team gets a free kick. The only way to score a goal in soccer is by hitting the ball across the goal line and every goal is worth a point. Conversely, in basketball, each goal is worth two points. Points are scored by shooting the ball into the opponent teamââ¬â¢s net. In both soccer and basketball, the team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Both soccer and basketball are considered team sports as there are several people playing the games at once. While soccer has eleven players in a team, basketball has five who are allowed to play at one time. However, a soccer team can have 50 players on the roster but a basketball team can only have about 12 and 15 players. In soccer, the players are divided between four positions: defenders, forwards, midfielders and goal keepers. Usually each team has 2-3 defenders or fullbacks who try to block the opposing teamââ¬â¢s players from scoring. They play closest to their goal post that their goalkeeper defends. Conversely, forwards play closest to the opponentââ¬â¢s goal post which is guarded by the opposing goalkeeper.
